The Deep Web

December 14, 2017
If you have never heard of the Deep/Dark web then you are in for a treat!
*To the FBI, i am not using it*

It sprung up into conversation at 1am and i thought i would share it with you all too. Okay so, think of your daily internet browsing, Facebook, Instagram, just using google in general that sort of thing. This is all classed as The Public Web or the Surface Web, which equals up to 4% of the web content and is only available via access through search engines like Google. You then have The Deep Web which is approximately 96% of the digital universe which are all protected by passwords. Think of it as a giant ice burg, the block above the water is what we can access. Then the giant piece underneath which you cannot see is the Deep web. Let me put it into an example for you;
Surface Web - Yahoo, Google, Bing, MSN, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram.
Deep Web - Academic databases, Medical records, Financial records, Legal documents, Scientific Reports, Bitcoin.
Dark Web - Human trafficking, Hit men, Fake passports, Child pornography, Cannibalism, Drug purchase, Weapon purchase, Credit card fraud.

Most of this is none indexed pages, but there are a lot of disturbing things once you begin browsing. You can get yourself caught up in some dangerous stuff. Not that i would ever recommend this, but if you wanted to access the deep web you can do it by downloading the TOR Browser, Freenet or I2P. Whenever you access any pages on a laptop or your phone always beware that your IP address is being tracked. To the average website this is not really an issue but if you where to gain access to something beyond the surface then somebody will always be tracking you. Weather it be the torrent owner, somebody gaining access to your location, personal details or spying on you through your webcam/camera, or simply the FBI. This is why you are warned to use a private browser and make yourself anonymous.
The Dark web is much smaller than the Deep web but the Dark web is the much more dangerous place. These are all hidden networks avoiding their presence on the Surface web and its URLs are tailed up with .onion whereas we use .com or .uk daily. These domains are not indexed by regular search engines ie Google, so you can only access the Dark web with special software called The Onion Browser also known as TOR.

You can also access the Hidden Wiki which is the index for the Deep web. Giving you a list of pages you can access. However, if you open the Hidden Wiki it is strongly recommended that you read the article named 'How to exit the Matrix' for your own safety. And also keep your webcam covered.
You hear of many horror stories that come from people unsafely browsing. Anonymous parcels being delivered to their homes. Stalkers, paedophiles or other dangerous people gaining access to your camera/ webcam whenever they want. Or simply you end up on the wrong page and get yourself in a whole lot of trouble.

There is actually a game software called the Red Room you can download and play and it is a virtual gameplay of yourself in a room surfing the Dark Web on a computer. Hackers keep trying to gain access and your IP is being tracked so you must keep an eye out for intruders. If you complete the game you gain access to a website on the Dark web which is a live torture murder you get to watch and you join other viewers watching it online. This is a much safer experience as it is just a game if you are thinking about it. Either that or head over to YouTube and watch others browse instead!

This blog post is just an insight on what is out there, please for your own safety do not try to gain access without knowing what you are doing!
